Forgiveness Over Revenge

Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani activist for girls' education, was shot by the Taliban in 2012. Miraculously, she survived. Instead of seeking revenge, Malala chose to forgive her attackers, saying, "I want education for the sons and daughters of the Taliban and all the terrorists." Her forgiveness inspired millions worldwide. Malala went on to document her story in her book, "I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban"(2013).

We find a similar inspiring story of forgiveness in the Bible between Joseph and his brothers (Genesis 37, 42-45).

Joseph's brothers, fueled by jealousy, sold him into slavery and told their father he was dead. Despite being mistreated and facing many challenges, Joseph rose to become a powerful leader in Egypt.

When his brothers came to Egypt seeking help during a famine, Joseph could have easily sought revenge. Instead, he chose to forgive them, saying:

"Do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you." (Genesis 45:5)

Joseph's forgiveness was not based on his brothers' worthiness but on God's sovereignty and goodness. He saw that God had used their evil intentions for good, and he extended grace and mercy to those who had wronged him.

This story inspires us to forgive those who have wronged us and see the bigger picture of how God can use difficult situations for good. We must learn to extend grace and mercy to others, just as God has extended it to us.

Remain inspired!
