The Fruit of the Spirit

The fruit of the Spirit is the sign of a Spirit-dominated life. As Christians, we understand that everyone who belongs to Christ has the Spirit of God residing in them.

“You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ.” (Romans 8:9)

The fruit of the Spirit is the trophy of victory in the internal war between the flesh and the spirit. This is the most important spiritual warfare that you have to win as a Christian. It is more important than fighting against demons or witches. The one who wins the war within lives a victorious Christian life.

How do we win this war? You will realize that there are two parties involved: the flesh (the sinful nature motivated by our physical desires) and the spirit (our regenerated self motivated by our spiritual desires). The stronger side wins the war. We are supposed to crucify the sinful nature. The word crucify is from a Greek word which figuratively means to subdue.

“Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.” (Galatians 5:24)

Therefore, by subduing the desires of the sinful nature and consciously cultivating the fruit of the Spirit, we win the war within. This must be a daily practice as this war never ends so long as we remain in this body.
