Know Your Territory

“The land you are entering to take over is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you planted your seed and irrigated it by foot as in a vegetable garden.

But the land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven.” (Deuteronomy 11:10-11)

Take note of the message that Moses, the leader of the Israelites who led them out of slavery in Egypt, gave his people when they were nearing the Promised land. He understood that they were bound to fail if they entered the new territory with the same mindset they operated in Egypt with.

We shall all change territories in one way or another at certain points in our lives. Whether venturing into a new line of business or program of study, physically relocating to a new environment, taking up a new role, starting a new project, or embarking on a life-changing endeavor such as getting married or having children.

A poor understanding of the territory in which you are operating can be detrimental to your success. It is dangerous when the conditions of your life change faster than your mindset. Entering into a new territory with the mentality of your previous territory is a recipe for frustration and disillusionment.

At the macro level, organizations, companies, and nations must frequently renew their strategies, goals, and modus operandi to adapt to the changing times and environment in which they operate.

May God grant us the wisdom to update our mindset, and the learning spirit that keeps us evolving to be able to succeed in every new territory of our lives.

Remain inspired!
