It's Not True!

"... for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies." (John 8:44)

Jesus, addressing a section of the Jews, revealed a very important attribute of the devil - the father of lies. Deception is his greatest weapon - a potent one of course. Jesus says, there is no truth in him.

With this weapon, he succeeded against Adam and Eve. Indeed, with this same weapon, he has succeeded against many erstwhile spiritually stable children of God. Beware of what you believe and act on because your enemy, the devil, lurks around, constantly looking for opportunities to throw lies at you.

He will lie to you about your real identity in Christ and lure you gradually out of your secret place in God. He will lie to you about what people think about you. He will try to convince you that your loved ones actually hate and despise you.

He will lie to you that every good thing you're trying to do to glorify God isn't worth it. He will discourage you with defeatist thoughts until you give up. Many of the thoughts that form your perception about your life and the people around you may actually not be true.

It's unsurprising that In Paul's list of things to think about in Philippians 4:8, he starts with "Whatever is true." This means that we must be alert not to accommodate lies in our thoughts.

The opposite of lies is truth, and God's word is truth. When we submit ourselves constantly to God and the truth of His word, we shall be able to defeat the lies of the devil.

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (James 4:7)
