The Sun Will Be Darkened

Today is August 11. On this day in 1999, the world experienced what is thought to be one of the most viewed total solar eclipses in recorded history. The eclipse was visible from Europe, most of Asia and Africa, and in parts of North America. Since then, many more solar eclipses have occurred.

The thought of solar eclipses should remind us of the signs of the imminent end of this world.

“There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea.” (Luke 21:25)

“Immediately after the distress of those days the sun will be darkened…” (Matthew 24:29)

Eschatology, the study of the final events that are to unfold in the history of the world, is increasingly becoming a less discussed subject. This is understandable. The more people love the world, the less they expect its destruction.

Whether we like it or not, this world has been destined to end soon. The day and the hour no one knows. But we are admonished to be ready at all times. We are assured that if we abide in God’s will, although the world is passing away, we shall live forever.

And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. (1 John 2:17)

Having this in mind, let's live our lives in constant obedience to God's word.

Remain inspired!
