Come and See
People will always have their perception about you based on your background or status. This influences how they relate to you. It is up to you to either confirm or disprove this perception.
It is always your responsibility to disprove every negative perception about you lest they become a tag on you forever.
In Jesus' day, there was a prevailing perception about people from the town Nazareth. This perception was so negative that when Philip told Nathaniel that he had found Jesus of Nazareth whom he believed was the Messiah, Nathaniel doubted simply because Jesus was from Nazareth.
Philip found Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."
“Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?” Nathanael asked. “Come and see,” said Philip. (John 1:45-46)
Philip's response of "Come and see" says a lot about what he had personally seen in Jesus. Eventually, Nathaniel's perception changed when he also encountered Jesus. What people see in you when they encounter you personally will determine whether you confirm or disprove their perception about you.
Now, "Jesus of Nazareth" carries no negative impression but an ever powerful assurance of God's grace. The negative perception about Nazareth has been replaced with a positive one forever.
When we allow Jesus to reign in us, we will not be subject to the prevailing perceptions of our background but will have the ability to change the narrative and replace every negative perception about us with a positive one.
