You shall Not Commit Adultery (Part 1)

"You shall not commit adultery." (Exodus 20:14)

The seventh commandment deals with our sexual lives. It is important to note that the ten commandments are highly condensed quick rules of life. In other words, for an expanded version of each of the commandments, consult the entire Bible.

Although the seventh commandment mentions adultery as its focal point, the spirit of it addresses our sexuality in general. Just as Jesus gave an extended interpretation of the sixth commandment ("You shall not murder"), He did same with the seventh commandment as follows:

"You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.' But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart." (Matthew 5:27-28)

By Jesus' interpretation, fornication (sex before marriage), adultery (sex outside marriage) pornography, and all other forms of sexually perverse lifestyles are infractions of equal weight in the light of the seventh commandment.

This commandment is arguably the heaviest for our sex-craze dispensation today. The devil has offered many clever-sounding philosophies to dissuade people from the time-tested biblical standards.

Dear child of God, your best bet is to stick to God's word which is forever settled in heaven.

"Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral." (Hebrews 13:4)

We shall continue on this subject next week.
