All Things Bright and Beautiful

The words of the hymn below were written by Cecil Frances Alexander and was first published in 1848 as part of her Hymns for Little Children.

When we remember that God is the maker of all things bright and beautiful, and that every good and perfect gift comes from Him, we shall never cease to rely on Him everyday of our lives. May our faith be rekindled upon the realization that we serve a God who is able to create something out of nothing.

1 Each little flow’r that opens,

each little bird that sings,

God made their glowing colors,

God made their tiny wings.

All things bright and beautiful,

all creatures great and small,

all things wise and wonderful,

the Lord God made them all.

2 The purple-headed mountain,

the river running by,

the sunset, and the morning

that brightens up the sky;

3 The cold wind in the winter,

the pleasant summer sun,

the ripe fruits in the garden,

God made them, ev’ry one.

4 God gave us eyes to see them,

and lips that we might tell

how great is God Almighty,

who has made all things well.

"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." (James 1:17)
