I'm Pressing On

Johnson Oatman, Jr. (1856-1922) was the author of the hymn, "I'm pressing on the upward way." His father was an accomplished singer and Johnson always enjoyed to hear him sing the hymns of the faith.

Johnson's hymn is a reflection of his own life in that it's on record that he wrote over two hundred songs every year and has over three thousand hymns to his credit.

No matter what has transpired in our lives and whatever comes our way, may we find the energy to press on!

1 I’m pressing on the upward way,

New heights I’m gaining ev'ry day;

Still praying as I’m onward bound,

“Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.”

Refrain:

Lord, lift me up, and let me stand

By faith, on heaven’s tableland;

A higher plane than I have found,

Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.

2 My heart has no desire to stay

Where doubts arise and fears dismay;

Though some may dwell where these abound,

My prayer, my aim, is higher ground.

3 I want to live above the world,

Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled;

For faith has caught a joyful sound,

The song of saints on higher ground.

4 I want to scale the utmost height,

And catch a gleam of glory bright;

But still I’ll pray till heav’n I’ve found,

“Lord, lead me on to higher ground.”

"I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 3:14)

Remain inspired!
